The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has published revenue figures for Atlantic City Casinos in the month of February. The numbers show that the nine operators in the market were able to take in over $210 million in profit, which is a significant gain from last year.
Better weather and the waning of the pandemic have contributed, of course, with revenue this year reaching over $395 million to date. That represents a 28.5% growth from the same time in 2021, when the numbers reached barely over $305 million.
A large portion of this revenue was from foot traffic to the physical casinos, which was up over 43% from last year. While these numbers are encouraging, they show more of a return to normalcy than growth when compared with statistics from 2020.
With the positive news that people are returning to the physical Atlantic City Casinos, some may be wondering if online gambling in the state fell. However, the Division of Gaming Enforcement was quick to report that virtual casino games took in $130 million for the state, which was a rise of close to 40% itself.
The Lloyd Levenson Institute at Stockton University studies gambling figures for Atlantic City Casinos, and a representative stated that “Further relaxation of pandemic-related precautions nationwide gives us hope that spring 2022 will return operators to a pre-pandemic operating environment.” And we certainly hope so!
